Technique where uke is thrown using a wrist lock
In kotegaeshi, tori grabs uke's wrist from above so that the base of the thumb is gripped (‘eagle grip’). The throw is usually performed using a wrist lock or a cut with the second hand into the crook of the elbow. The ukemi for this throw is very often a free fall (tobi-ukemi).
Kotegaeshi is related to irimi-nage where the throw is using the contact to uke's neck instead.
